‘Celebrating’ world Heritage

07/05/2020

Yesterday was African #WorldHeritage Day….

What is World Heritage?

Heritage is our legacy from the past, what we live with today, and what we pass on to future generations. Our cultural and natural heritage are both irreplaceable sources of life and inspiration.

Places as unique and diverse as the wilds of East Africa’s Serengeti, the Pyramids of Egypt, the Great Barrier Reef in Australia and the Baroque cathedrals of Latin America make up our world’s heritage.

World Heritage sites – and there are 1121 as of this research – are being affected by Coronavirus in many ways but mainly that these sites are closed so patronage is down or non existent. As the fees for maintenance and development of the world heritage sites are not coming in, a huge impact is being had.

Some good news … its 10 years since the launch of the World Heritage Volunteers Initiative
