Connecting ( happy ) fish, rivers and people

23/10/2020

World Fish Migration Day is a one-day global celebration to raise awareness for the importance of free-flowing rivers and migratory fish. The first celebration was in 2014 and, this year, we are coordinating the fourth! On this biennial international day of events, organisations from around the world organise their event around the common theme of CONNECTING FISH, RIVERS AND PEOPLE.

Why celebrate World Fish Migration Day?

Many fish need to migrate to reproduce, feed and complete their life cycles. They are a crucial link in the food chain and play an essential role in creating healthy and productive river systems. Furthermore, they are vital to the livelihood of millions of people around the world. They are ecologically, culturally, economically, and recreationally important! However, many are critically endangered or threatened.

We see it as our shared responsibility to find solutions to restore fish migration, recover healthy rivers and prevent future degradation and species extinction! To accomplish this brighter future, an excellent place to start is by educating others and raising awareness about the current situation as well as discover and implement solutions to the challenge.
