Wonder Project nightlights STEM

The Wonder Project is Engineering New Zealand’s initiative to get the next generation excited about a career in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM). It’s about sparking wonder in STEM from a young age, building confidence, and having all young Kiwis believing they can achieve remarkable things.

In Australia

Engineers Australia is set to celebrate the UNESCO designated World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development (WED) on Friday 4 March. The official UNESCO theme for 2022 is Build Back Wiser.

A good recent example is Wivenhoe Dam, in Queensland, is a good example of a project which recently came under some scrutiny -due to floods and whether / when to release.
“Wivenhoe Dam is South East Queensland’s largest water storage and is the main supply of water for Brisbane and the greater Ipswich area.

Wivenhoe Dam was built on the Brisbane River, about 80 kilometres from Brisbane. It was designed by the Water Resources Commission and built in 1984.

The dam was built for the dual purpose of providing a safe and reliable water supply for the region and flood mitigation.

It is a gated dam which allows us to make controlled water releases during times of heavy rain. Wivenhoe Dam has a total storage capacity of 3.132 million megalitres.”
