When 160 pilot whales beached themselves in Western Australia late last week, around 20 per cent of them died.
It’s a sight that has not been uncommon in recent years, with social media and drone vision giving scientists a greater insight into why it happens than they have had previously.
“One of the theories is that they are being piloted into the shore by a sick animal,” said one scientist.
