Powerfully protecting humanity’s treasures : 50 years of World heritage

1972-2022….

In 2022, the Convention concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage celebrates its 50th anniversary. Over the past five decades, the Convention has protected and promoted humanity’s treasures and transformed the way we value heritage.

As the world assesses the extent of the damage caused by COVID-19, combined with accelerating environmental degradation, social divisions, and conflicts, we find ourselves questioning our fundamental values: What should we change for the better? What should be passed down to future generations? What unites us as a single human family?
